Public Hearing on Tampa Bay Water Use 3/3

Hillsborough County Commissioners have scheduled two public hearings on Wed., Mar. 3, to discuss Tampa Bay Water's consolidated wellfields water use permit renewal, and the annual report on TBW's Optimized Regional Operations Plan.

The public hearing on the permit is at 2 p.m. in the County Commission Boardroom, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 2nd floor, in downtown Tampa. The second hearing on the operations plan will immediately follow.

Hillsborough County is one of six local governments receiving drinking water through the regional supply system operated by TBW. County staff is recommending that Commissioners not arbitrate either item they will discuss on Wednesday.

The water use permit from the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) for Tampa Bay Water's 11 Central System wellfields expires Dec. 31. TBW has prepared an application requesting renewal at the current annual average withdrawal rate of 90 million gallons per day for 10 years.
